In this complex and rapidly changing world, an education in the Humanities is absolutely critical for young people to become responsible and well informed global citizens. By gaining a thorough knowledge of history – both in Britain and the wider world – students develop a greater comprehension of society and, in turn, their places within it. As a department, we are passionate about educating pupils about key historical events  and linking them to current affairs that effect them in the world today.

 

Across Key Stage Three and Four, we aim to deliver quality and challenging lessons which help pupils to discover both the past and the world around them. A range of issues are explored in an active and lively way through investigations, problem solving, ICT, field visits, and group work.

The History department is known for our exciting, curriculum based trips across all years, including the popular Battlefields Trip in Year 9 to Belgium and the Krakow trip to Auschwitz in Year 10 to name but a few.  Please click on the heading 'trips' at the top of the page to view these in further detail.

A key aim of History lessons is to develop each child as an individual, helping them to become independent and resiliant pupils. Our Schemes of Work reflect this, as well as including lessons which enable students to not only  develop historical knowledge and understanding, but also to develop a wide range of analytical skills that are applicable, not only in History,  but in other subjects, in Further Education and in the work place.
